Muharram 9 procession passes Numaish in Karachi

Muharram 9 processions are being held across the country amid tight security. Karachi’s central jaloos had crossed Numaish by 3:30pm.

Thousands of mourners are participating in the processions to pay tribute to Imam Hussain (AS) and his followers who sacrificed their lives for Islam at Karbala 1,400 years ago.

Snipers are positioned on rooftops and about 300 lanes connecting to Karachi’s main MA Jinnah Road have been sealed with shipping containers.

Internet and phone services have been suspended in different cities, including Karachi.  The services will remain inactive between 7am and midnight. The authorities have also cut off wireless internet device coverage in some areas.

Around 3,000 policemen and security personnel have been deployed in Islamabad. A total of 909 majalis and 177 processions will be held in the capital.

Moreover, mobile phone signals have been suspended in sectors G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, F-6, F-7, and F-11.

The procession started from Markazi Imambargah in Sector G-6/2.

More than 5,537 security personnel have been deployed in Karachi. The procession routes have been sealed by containers.

The main procession will start from Nishtar Park in the afternoon.

In Multan, the main procession started from Mumtazabad. A total of 82 processions will be held in the city today (Thursday).
