An ATC in Karachi sentenced former Tharparkar district and session judge Sikandar Lashari to death on Saturday. The verdict was announced after 22 witnesses appeared before the court.

Lashari, along with Irfan Khan alias Fahim, has been charged with murdering Aqib Shahani, the son of his fellow district and sessions judge Khalid Hussain Shahani, in Hyderabad on February 19, 2014. He was arrested on March 5 after the Sindh High Court suspended him from his post as district and sessions judge, allowing the police to take him into custody.

Aqib, the son of the Jacobabad district and sessions judge, was killed in front of his mother, two sisters and a cousin near the Niaz Cricket Stadium.

According to the police, the incident happened over a personnel dispute between the judges' families. Lashari was initially imprisoned at the Central Jail, Hyderabad before his case was shifted to the Karachi court.
