Aitzaz Ahsan apologizes for his remarks about Kulsoom Nawaz’s illness

PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan said on Tuesday that he was not only saddened by the fact that the former first lady Kulsoom Nawaz had passed away, but also apologetic that his statements had hurt her and the Sharif family’s sentiments.

“I unconditionally apologize for my statement,” he said. “I will attend Kulsoom Bibi’s funeral.”

Kulsoom Nawaz passed away at the Harley Street Clinic on Tuesday. Her son Hassan Nawaz confirmed the news to SAMAA TV.

“Kulsoom Nawaz was a kindhearted and pious lady,” he said, adding that he had condoled with the Sharif family.

“This is a big loss for the Sharif Family,” Aitzaz Ahsan added.

He admired how Kulsoom Nawaz protested after then military ruler Pervez Musharraf toppled her husband’s government and put him in jail.

Earlier, Aitzaz had said that Harley Street Clinic where Kulsoom Nawaz was admitted for cancer treatment was owned and operated by the Sharifs. He had also claimed that the clinic was not meant for cancer patients.

This became the bone of contention between PML-N and PPP. Recently, when PPP announced that Aitzaz Ahsan will be their candidate, the PML-N leader Pervaiz Rashid said that PML-N will only support him if he goes to Adiala Jail and seek forgiveness from Nawaz Sharif for his statement.
