Three members of the transgender community were assaulted on Wednesday by unidentified assailants in Peshawar.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Sarband police station.

Talking to SAMAA Digital, a transgender rights activist Taimur Kamal said that the victims, Guria, Laiba, and Asaday, were returning home after attending a music programme at a wedding when they were attacked.

The police’s response, however, was limited to only registering a daily diary report.

“Since 2015, there have been more than 57 reported killings of members of the community in the province and many more have been killed but their deaths haven’t been reported,” the rights activist said.

Later, a local police official told SAMAA Digital that a case has been registered and investigation is underway.
