The Supreme Court stayed the transfer of schools set up inside homes in Islamabad on Thursday.

The private schools had approached the top court, saying that a high court had ordered their transfer without listening to their side. As a result, 52 private schools had been sealed after the high court’s verdict.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that private schools were not fulfilling the duty to provide education for free. “They are charging hefty sums in fees in the name of fulfilling this duty,” he said.

The Supreme Court set aside the high court’s verdict and issued a notice to the chairperson of the CDA, ordering him to submit replies about what alternative arrangements have been made for the transferred or sealed schools.
