SC stops drug regulatory authority from increasing medicine prices

The Supreme Court has stopped the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan from increasing the price of the medicine in the country.

During a hearing of a case regarding the increase in medicine prices at the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry, the DRAP informed the court that a policy has been formed for the increase of medicine prices and all stakeholders have agreed to it.

However, before the policy could be implemented, there is a need to handle all the cases pending in different courts against the authority.

The court gave the authority 10 weeks to wrap up all the cases and, in the meantime, froze the price of medicine at the current level.

The Supreme Court also directed the federal government to appoint a permanent chief executive of the drug authority.
