The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly will be from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, said a senior party leader Ahsan Iqbal.
The Pakistan Peoples Party and others have agreed that the opposition leader should be from PML-N, Iqbal told reporters in Islamabad.
“We are trying to develop consensus on fielding a joint candidate for the post of prime minister against Imran Khan,” he said.
The opposition parties have announced that they would field their own candidate in the National Assembly to derail PTI chief Imran Khan’s election as PM.
They would contest the election for speaker and deputy speaker. However, the names of the candidates have yet to be finalized.
All major political parties, except the PTI, have been claiming since July 25 that the polls were massively rigged.
The political parties have announced that they will protest what they say are election irregularities on Aug 8 and 9 (Wednesday, Thursday) outside the offices of the Election Commission across the country.
