The joint opposition has announced that it will stage a demonstration outside the Election Commission of Pakistan office on August 8 against alleged rigging in the July 25 polls.
On August 9, the opposition will hold a protest outside the provincial offices of the ECP. It was decided during the opposition parties’ working committee meeting.
The opposition alliance will be called the ‘Pakistan Alliance for Free and Fair Elections’. The opposition parties suggested that a black day be observed when PTI Chairperson Imran Khan is elected as the prime minister in the National Assembly.
The opposition alliance will field its candidates for the slots of prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker of the NA. However, the working committee couldn’t reach a consensus on the nominations.
It was decided yesterday that the candidate for the post of prime minister would be from the PML-N and the PPP would put forward a candidate for the speaker of the National Assembly.
The candidate for the post of deputy speaker will be from the MMA.
