NA-131: Vote recount underway on Saad Rafique’s request

August 7, 2018

The recounting of votes is underway in the National Assembly constituency, NA-131 (Lahore-VII), on the orders of Lahore High Court.

PML-N leader Saad Rafique, who contested election against PTI chairman from NA-131, had approached the LHC requesting recount of the votes.

PTI chairman Imran Khan had won the seat, receiving 84,313 votes against 83,633 votes of former railways minister Saad Rafique.

At least 2,835 cast votes were rejected in the polls.

Mr. Rafique, a senior PML-N leader, had challenged the results, requesting the Election Commission to recount the votes.

When the rejected votes were recounted, the result slightly changed, but Khan still remained the winner by a few hundred votes.

Rafique, after losing the recount, appealed the election commission to recount all votes cast in the constituency. However, his request was rejected.

The PML-N leader later approached the Lahore High Court that ordered election commission to recount the votes.
