PM-elect Imran Khan has invited Indian actor Aamir Khan and former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and Navjot Singh Sidhu to his oath-taking ceremony , PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday.
There were reports that the PM-elect was considering inviting leaders of SAARC countries, including Indian PM Narendra Modi, to his swearing-in ceremony. However, the PTI spokesman has denied the media reports.
Fawad Chaudhry, the PTI spokesman, tweeted: “Media speculations about international dignitaries attending PM oath ceremony are not correct.”
“We have sought the advice of Foreign Office on the matter and will decide accordingly,” he added.
On July 30, Indian PM Modi had telephoned Imran Khan and congratulated him on his party’s victory in the July 25 elections.
In the phone call, Modi “reiterated his vision of peace and development in the entire neighborhood”, according to a statement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
In his victory speech on July 26, Imran Khan said that he wanted to resolve the long-standing disputes with India through talks. “If India comes and take one step towards us, we will take two.”
“Prime Minister (Modi) expressed hope that democracy will take deeper roots in Pakistan,” the Indian ministry said in a brief statement.
