Chief Justice tells NAB to keep its investigations secret until filing of references

August 28, 2018

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar told the anti-corruption watchdog, NAB, to keep its investigations under the cover until it files a reference in the court.

The top judge met the chairperson of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Javed Iqbal. Iqbal informed the chief justice (CJ) about the problems the anti-corruption watchdog faces in filing references and investigations. The CJ told him not to make public the investigations until filing of the reference.

“The purpose of NAB is to curtail corruption – not to defame people,” said the CJ. “It is important to protect citizen’s honour until strong evidence is found against them.”
