Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has said that the country cannot progress without waging a jihad against corruption.
“Only one thing has ruled the country after Liaquat Ali Khan and it is corruption, corruption and corruption,” the CJP said, speaking to lawyers of High Court Bar in Multan.
The top judge said that corruption has destroyed the country, adding that they will have to first focus on self-accountability.
He said that no dams were made in the country in the last 40 years and when he called for the construction of dams he faced opposition from certain quarters.
On July 6, the CJP had created a fund for the construction of Diamer Bhasha dam.
“My granddaughter who came from US also gave donation for the construction of dams,” the CJP told the lawyers, adding that there is nothing wrong in constructing Kala Bagh dam if a consensus is reached.
“Kala Bagh dam would be constructed after consultation with the provinces,” he added.
The top judge also expressed anger over the country’s education system and said that he would not allow education to become a business.
