Car owners beware — there is a new scam in Karachi. People are renting cars, saying they are working on CPEC, and then disappearing with the vehicles.

The cars are taken from Karachi to Balochistan and then never come back.

According to the police, transport companies are renting a large number of cars as part of this scam.

The cars are being rented for Rs30,000 to Rs40,000 per month, reported SAMAA TV correspondent Amir Majeed. Fifty cars have already been stolen through this scheme.

The authorities said one of the people involved in the scam is named Waseem Bari, who takes the cars from Karachi. In Balochistan, a man named Sardari Amin Buledi buys the stolen cars, explained a policeman.

One man whose car had been stolen by these scammers said they promised him Rs25,000 per month and signed an agreement but when they went to collect the money and the car, the men had disappeared with his car.
