Doctors at government hospitals have been assigned duties at polling stations on July 25 so who is going to treat patients?

An emergency is ordinarily declared at public hospitals on polling day but the lack of doctors may pose a problem.

In Karachi, the staff of the Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital, Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad, Sindh Government Hospital Korangi, Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad, Sindh Government Hospital Ibrahim Hyderi, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital, Sindh Government Hospital Orangi Town, Civil Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have all been assigned election duties.

Of the 165 doctors at the Lyari General Hospital, 156 have been assigned election duties. That leaves nine doctors to run the hospital.

At the Korangi hospital, 122 of the 300 staff members have been assigned duties on polling day.

In Ibrahim Hyderi, 90 of the 164 staff members will be at polling stations, while 400 of 500 people who work at the Qatar hospital will be out of the hospital.

From Civil Hospital, Karachi, there will be 35 paramedics on duty and 17 doctors from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

There will also be 1,500 staff members of KMC hospitals, including 600 doctors, on duty at polling stations.
