Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, who is also the vice-president of the MMA, announced on Monday that they will take up the opposition benches.

We respect the people’s mandate, said Haq. Despite serious reservations regarding the election results, we want to give the new government a chance a work for the sake of continuation of democracy and the formation of a new civil government, he said.

According to the JI chief, they will support the positive steps taken by the incoming government and will give them a chance to implement their 100-day plan.

The nation is now waiting for the implementation of change and PTI chief Imran Khan’s promise of turning Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state, said Haq.

We will work for the stability of the political system and play the role of a strong opposition, he added.
