The Supreme Court rejected on Tuesday an application seeking the disqualification of former federal health minister and PML-N leader Saira Afzal Tarar from contesting the elections.
PTI’s Shaukat Ali Bhatti, who is contesting the polls against Tarar from Hafizabad’s NA-87 constituency, had filed the appeal.
The applicant said that the PML-N leader had concealed information in her nomination papers. His counsel said that Tarar did not declare her two bank accounts. He added that the amount of land she had declared is more than what she actually owns.
Justice Azmat Saeed said that the issue would have been important if the bank accounts had a significant amount of money, which could be used to influence the polls. If she had declared less than what she owns, it would have been a problem, said Justice Ijazul Ahsan. Declaring more than what you own is not a problem, he said.
