PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi has confirmed that his party is in contact with the MQM-P on both provincial and national levels.
The MQM-P has managed to secure 6 national assembly seats from urban areas in Sindh.
On July 27, PTI leader Jehangir Khan Tareen had contacted MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and discussed a possible alliance between the two parties.
A meeting between the leaders of the two parties is expected in a day or two.
On the other hand, the newly-elected PTI MNAs and MPAs have objected to their party’s decision to seek MQM-P’s help in forming the federal government. They are of the opinion that an alliance with the MQM-P would damage the PTI because, according to them, the people of Karachi gave them the mandate to get rid of the Karachi-based party.
“Karachi’s people gave us the mandate in Imran Khan’s name,” said one MNA. “Why did we even contest elections if the party had to form an alliance with the MQM-P?”
