Lahore Metro bus service suspended

July 13, 2018

Authorities locked down parts of Lahore to bar supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz from heading to the airport to welcome former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam upon their return from London.

Thousands of policemen have been deployed in Lahore and shipping containers placed along main roads to block protesters from moving towards the airport, where Nawaz is expected to land around 8:15p.m.

The Metro bus service has also been suspended in Lahore where the party loyalists, led by PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, are marching to the airport in defiance of the ban on all public rallies.

Clashes between the police and PML-N workers also erupted in different cities of Punjab.
