Imran’s close aide advises Najam Sethi to resign as PCB Chief

July 27, 2018

Zulfi Bukhari, a close aide of PM-elect Imran Khan, has advised Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman to tender his resignation.

“The job should be given on merit,” Mr Bukhari told SAMAA TV. “If I were him, I would have already resigned.”

He said his friend Imran Khan would make positive changes in Pakistan’s cricket structure. “Nobody could match Imran Khan’s cricket knowledge.”

Najam Sethi, a renowned journalist and an analyst, was made the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab before the 2013 elections.

After the results of 2013 elections were announced, Mr Khan had launched an anti-rigging campaign against the PML-N government, accusing Mr Sethi of helping the party win the general elections in Punjab. Najam Sethi was made PCB Chairman after the PML-N formed the government.

“Punjab has always been the focus of all the political parties but the PTI would focus on every part of Pakistan,” Mr. Khan's friend said.

Mr Bukhari accused Mr Khan’s ex-wife Rehman Khan of attempting to damage PTI’s election campaign. However, he said her attempts were foiled by the voters.

“Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were behind Rehman Khan’s campaign,” he alleged. “It was a funded campaign.”
