Court adjourns hearing of Al-Azizia, Flagship references till Wednesday

The accountability court adjourned the hearing of Al-Azizia and Flagship references against the Sharif family till Wednesday.

Judge Muhammad Bashir said that the high court will give its verdict on whether the trial will be conducted in jail or not by Tuesday evening. He adjourned the hearing for a day. “[Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer] Khawaja Haris will also be back by tomorrow,” he said.

The accountability court awarded 11 years to former PM Nawaz Sharif, eight years to his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and one year to his son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar in the Avenfield case. All three are currently in jail. Two more cases have yet to be decided by the accountability court. According to sources, judge Muhammad Bashir has written to the Islamabad High Court to recuse himself from hearing the other two cases.

The Islamabad High Court will hear the appeals against the Avenfield verdict on Tuesday. A two-member bench, comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, will hear the appeals.
