Sheikh Rasheed challenges decision to postpone the election in NA-60

July 23, 2018

The notification postponing the election in NA-60 Rawalpindi has been challenged in both the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court.

APML chief Sheikh Rasheed took the matter to the apex court after saying that the Islamabad High Court did not entertain his petition. He said he sat there for five hours but was not heard.

PPP candidate Mukhtar Abbas has also petitioned the Islamabad High Court against the notification and asked for the election to be held as soon as possible.

He said that an election cannot be postponed just because on candidate has been sentenced to jail. PML-N candidate Hanif Abbasi was sentenced to life in jail in a narcotics smuggling case on Saturday night.

Why are the voters being punished because a court sentenced a candidate to jail, said the petition.
