Maryam Nawaz has reacted harshly to the disqualification of another party candidate and said the PML-N is being targeted because the opponents know the party is going to win the elections.

Waseem Sheikh, the PML-N candidate for NA-137, Kasur, was sentenced to one month in prison for contempt of court.

Waseem Sheikh and others were accused of organizing an “anti-judiciary” rally after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif in July last year.

“The PML-N is being target because it is winning,” Maryam Nawaz said, adding that “do whatever you want but you can’t stop the people on the polling day”.

Maryam Nawaz and her father Nawaz Sharif are right now in London to look after Kulsoom Nawaz who has been receiving treatment for cancer for the past few months.

The family is facing corruption cases in the accountability court.

On June 28, the Supreme Court had found PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him till the rising of court under Section 2 (b) of Article 204 of the Constitution.

Aziz, the PML-N’s candidate from Narowal, couldn’t contest elections for the next five years after his conviction.

Nawaz said that she would return to Pakistan to stay among the voters as soon as her mother gets better.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif has also expressed reservations over what he called pre-poll rigging and said there would be dire consequence, if it does not stop.

“A dangerous game is being played,” said the former PM. “My party and I have been targeted for the past six months,” he told reporters in London.

Sharif was apparently referring to the Supreme Court’s decision against party leader Daniyal Aziz and recent NAB inquiries against PML-N members.

The former PM criticized the court verdicts and said different judgments were issued for his party and that of his opponents in similar cases.
