If we get another chance to form the government, Bhasha Dam would be our first priority, said former Punjab CM and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.

“Water is the biggest problem of the entire country – not just Karachi,” he said at an event in the port city on Tuesday.

According to him, we need to construct more dams. “If we continue to depend on India for our water needs, we will be destroyed,” he said. “We need to construct our own dams. Mian Nawaz Sharif’s government has bought land worth Rs100 billion for Bhasha Dam.”

He said it should be the next government’s foremost priority to complete the construction of Bhasha Dam. “Otherwise we will not be able to resolve the water crisis looming over Pakistan,” he said, adding that if the PML-N gets another chance, they will ensure the completion of Bhasha Dam’s construction.

Water crisis is a routine feature of summer months in Pakistan and, in particular, Karachi. Riots and protests have broken out in the past over water shortage.
