The two militants found guilty in the murder of famous qawwal Amjad Sabri have been given the death penalty, according to the ISPR.
Mohammad Asim and Mohammad Ishaq were found guilty in the assassination of Amjad Sabri. Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed the death sentences of 10 militants on Monday including Asim and Ishaq.
The terrorists were tried by special military courts where they confessed their crimes to the judicial magistrate and the trial court.
Speaking to SAMAA anchor Nadeem Malik, his wife Nadia Sabri said that she could not understand why her husband had been killed.
“He was a man who praised Allah and His prophet (pbuh),” she said. “I cannot understand why someone would kill him so coldly.”
Nadia spoke of how the government had failed to honour some promises that it had made to her when her husband had been killed.
“I was promised that my children’s monthly expenditure on education would be taken care of,” she said. “However those promises have yet to come true,” she added.
Sabri was shot dead in Karachi on June 22, 2016 when he was on his way to a television studio to record for a Ramazan transmission.
His death sent the nation into grief and shock.
