ISLAMABAD: Senators on Tuesday eulogized the services rendered by late Asma Jahangir for restoration of democracy, judiciary and human rights and said she would be remembered forever for her great efforts against dictators.
They were of the views that she never compromised on principles and stood firmly against un-democratic forces and dictators. The vacuum created due to her death would take a long time to fill.
Speaking on a special reference for late Ms Asma Jahangir, Sardar Azam Musakhel said late Asma Jahangir always raised slogan against all military dictators including Gen Ayub Khan, Gen Yahya Khan and Gen Musharraf. He said she played a leading role in restoration of judiciary.
She earned good name for Pakistan at international fora, he added.
Ilyas Bilour termed Asma Jahangir a freedom fighter and said her efforts for independence of judiciary and press would be remembered forever. He said such bold and fearless woman born rarely in centuries. He said although she has no affiliation with any party but always supported the democratic forces.
Javed Abbasi said the death of Asma was not only a great loss to the country but also to deprived class of the society. He said she remained on front foot for restoration of democracy and judiciary in the country.
Saher Kamran said late Asma always became voice of voiceless people in the country and was a champion of human rights. She said Ms. Asma provided legal assistance to the poor people free of cost.
Saher Kamran suggested that her name should be included in the Dastoor Gali owing to her services rendered for democracy.
Usman Kakar said she was an international figure and a champion of human rights. He said she always pleaded cases of poor free of cost.
He said she never bow down before the military dictators and continued her struggle for restoration of democracy. Dr Jahanzeb Jamaldini said she was an iron lady and she was an icon of human rights. He said she always raised voices against injustices meted out with Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Maulana Tanver ul Haq Thanvi condoled the death of Asma Jahangir and prayed Allah Almighty to rest her soul in eternal peace.
Shahi Syed also expressed grief over the demise of Asma death and said her services for human rights, strengthening of democracy and rule of law in the country would be remembered forever.
Kalsoom Parveen said Ms. Asma not only fought case of her father Ghulam Jilani but also won it when no one was ready to take up the case.
She said that her name should be included in the Dastoor Gali as she always fought for democracy.
Gian Chand said that she never compromised on principles and always raised voice against hatred, religious extremism and terrorism.
Mir Kabeer eulogized Ms. Asma for raising voice for voiceless people while Salim Zia and Ghaus Bakhs said that she was an asset of the country and she earned good name for Pakistan in comity of the nation.
Senators Bushra Gul, Taj Haider and Shibli Faraz said that she was voice of helpless people and boldly raised voice at every fora for their rights.
Nuzhat Sadiq said it was the need of hour to carry on her mission forward.
Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan while pay homage to Ms. Asma Jahangir said she believed in supremacy of rule of law and constitution. He said she personally made strenuous efforts for supremacy of the constitution.
The minister said she also played a key role for women empowerment in the country. – APP
