Govt approves over Rs.3b to plant 100 million trees

NEWS DESK: The government has approved an amount of Rs3.652 billion to plant 100 million trees in the country during next five years, reported Radio Pakistan.

A spokesperson of the climate change ministry said that tree plantation is continuing in all the four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Federally Administered Tribal Areas in different ecological locations.

He said these locations include road and canal sides, rehabilitation and re-stocking of historical plantation, restoration and improvement of scrub forests, conservation and enhancement in Juniper and Chilghoza forest and others.

The spokesperson said Rs605.172 million were allocated for the campaign during 2017-2018 out of which, Rs242.068 million have been released while Rs240.424 have been spent.
