LAHORE: A professor at Government College University (GCU) Lahore was gunned down during struggle with the dacoits early Wednesday morning.
According to police, two motorbike riders held Professor Dr. Akbar Cheema at gunpoint near Kalma Chowk of Lahore in Gulberg; however, he resisted their attempt to rob him.
The desperate robbers opened fire at him and fled the stickup site leaving him behind in critical condition.
Cheema, a professor at the GCU’s Botany Department, was shifted to hospital for medical treatment however, he succumbed to his critical wounds.
Police registered a case against the killing and launched investigation into the incident.
Police said the GC University professor was on board his car when armed miscreants intercepted him and fled after fatally shooting him.
According to police, the professor sustained four gunshots injuries; three hit him in the leg and the fourth one proved lethal as it hit him in the chest.
Police also said the incident may have been caused by by personal enmity.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed CCPO Lahore to submit a report about the incident and arrest the culprits at the earliest. –Samaa
