CJ questions out-of-turn promotions in Punjab

February 15, 2018

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar Thursday questioned as to why the out of turn promotions were upheld in Punjab after the same were overturned in Sindh.

In a case regarding illegal promotions of police officers, CJ Nisar said the court will not allow anyone to take out of turn promotions after killing people.

Heading a five-judge large bench, the CJP said such officers also got promotions who were found involved in extrajudicial killings, adding the court will reverse the out of turn promotions even if sanctioned by the court itself.

“We will get medals awarded to who performed their duties by risking their lives,” he added.

“The out-of-turn promotions were abolished in Sindh. But, why were they kept intact in Punjab?” he raised a question and vowed to rule all the similar case after hearing them all together. –Samaa
