NEWS DESK: Two groups of students engaged in violent clashes at Punjab University early Monday morning over a cultural festival.

Policemen in riot gear assumed positions and took action when the protests became violent. Some students even hit police vehicles with sticks.

Several students were injured and a chemistry lab was torched after a fight between two student groups broke out over a cultural event. The student groups attacked each other over preparations for the festival in the Electrical Engineering department.

According to the vice-chancellor, the university had granted permission for the festival.

Meanwhile, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that if some people objected to cultural festivals, they should sort it out peacefully with their teachers instead of engaging in violence.
