ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Wednesday slammed Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for clapping and lauding efforts of police officers in his presser from the other day.

Addressing the National Assembly, Khursheed Shah conveyed his anger and disappointment on the actions of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for clapping and praising police officers for catching the killers of seven-year-old Zainab when her father was present.

"Will the person who's daughter was subjected to such brutality clap with you?" he asked angrily. "According to a report, more than 1100 children in Punjab were subjected to such brutality. You should drown in shame for your actions."

Khursheed Shah said that in Lahore alone the situation was dismal as more than 107 cases of child abuse had taken place.

"When will you clap for these people?" he asked angrily.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif earned the ire of parliamentarians and political opponents when he praised the performance of police officers in apprehending Zainab's killer.

Social media also reacted angrily to the video footage of the chief minister turning off Zainab's father's microphone.

Suspect Imran Ali was arrested by police on Tuesday from Pakpattan after his DNA matched that found in right other cases where minor girls were raped and murdered.

The suspect had conducted the killings in a radius of 2.5 kilometers while police remained clueless about his nefarious actions.
