Sushma Swaraj attempts to locate Geeta’s family with picture of her handwriting

NEW DELHI: Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday tweeted a picture of Pakistani girl Geeta’s handwriting, inquiring from Twitter users the dialect that the words conveyed so that she could be reunited with her family.

In a couple of tweets, Sushma Swaraj urged people to come forward with any information about the area where the dialect conveyed through the girl’s handwriting is spoken in Pakistan so Geeta could be reunited with her family.

“Please see these pages and tell us the area where this dialect is spoken and what do these pages convey. This will help us locate her home and unite her with her family,” she tweeted.

Geeta is a deaf and mute girl who was recovered from Samjhauta Express in Lahore when she was only 7 or 8 years old. Until 2015 she had been living under the care of Bilquis Edhi.

After her return to India in 2015, hectic efforts have been made by both countries to locate her true family but so far none have yielded fruit as Geeta has refused to recognise a couple of parents who have claimed that she is their daughter.
