Live Updates: Gunmen attack Agriculture Training Institute in Peshawar; nine killed

PESHAWAR: Gunmen stormed Agriculture Training Institute in Peshawar early morning, killing at least nine people, most of them students, and injuring 32 others, Samaa reported Friday.

According to our correspondent, the terrorists entered Directorate General Agriculture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and then moved to the hostel of Agriculture Training Institute where, according to officials, 40 students were present.

The attack triggered a quick operation by police commandos, FC and Pakistan Army who killed all the four attackers.

The hostel is located inside the directorate and near Agriculture University of Peshawar that was closed today due to Eid Miladun Nabi.

Security forces surrounded the building and cordoned off the area. – Samaa

02:25 pm: Mehsud, while answering a question, said investigations into identity and origin of attackers is underway.

02:25 pm: The IG praised performance of law enforcement agencies for their quick response and bravery.

02:25 pm: He said 20 hand grenades and three suicide jackets were recovered from the deceased terrorists.



02:25 pm: Inspector General KPK Police, Salahuddin Mehsud, spoke to media about the attack. He said three terrorists were killed in the operation while the identity of a fourth suspected attacker is being ascertained.

01:05 pm: Officials said 17 injured were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex  while 15 to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

12:05 pm: Officials said six death bodies were brought to Hayatabad Medical Complex while three to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

11:40 am: Imran Khan condemns terrorist attack on Peshawar’s Agriculture Directorate.

11:30 am: Four attackers have been killed, firing has stopped, two injured army jawans shifted to hospital: ISPR said, adding that army troops have entered the Agriculture Directorate.

11:15 am: Pakistan Army says the successful operation has left all three attackers dead.

11:10 am: The number of injured rises to 15, including 10 students, two army soldiers and one policeman.

10:05 am: Officials said three burqa-clad suspects entered the hostel onboard a rickshaw.

10:00 am: Police said seven people have been injured, including three students, a watchman, a journalist and a Pakistan Army soldier, adding that 40 students are inside the hostel.
