QUETTA: Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Wednesday that the government had foiled an assassination attempt on the province’s governor by arresting two terrorists.
This was disclosed by Sarfraz Bugti during a press conference in which he said that the two terrorists had been arrested from the area of Gulistan.
“These terrorists had formed the plan in Afghanistan to assassinate the governor of Balochistan,” he said. “These terrorists are linked to the same group that was involved in the assassination of Shuja Khanzada.
Identifying the arrested militants as Hamid Bashir and Munawar, Sarfraz Bugti said that suicide vests had been seized from both of them.
“Weapons and ammunition were also obtained from the terrorists,” he said. “Security forces had relied on intelligence reports to apprehend the militants,” he added.
The development comes a few days after nine people were killed and 30 others were injured in the Quetta church attack when armed militants attacked the Christian place of worship.
