FAISALABAD: Five PML-N lawmakers have announced their resignations during a Khatm-e-Nabuwwat conference organised by Pir Sialvi in Faisalabad on Sunday.

The lawmakers belonging to Punjab's Jhang, Chiniot and Faisalabad districts, include MNAs Dr Nisar Ahmad Jutt and Ghulam Bibi Bharwana; Punjab MPAs Maulana Rehmatullah, Nizam-ud-Din Sialvi — Pir Hameeduddin Sialvi's son — and Khan Muhammad Baloch.

Pir Hameedud Din Sialvi briefly addressed the public meeting.

Sources said the lawmakers have decided to step down due to government’s inaction against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah over his remarks regarding the status of Ahmadis in the country in a TV show.

Rana Sanaullah had claimed that his remarks were twisted by some political opponents.

Pir Sialvi, who is also a former senator, earlier claimed at least 15 parliamentarians “spiritually associated” with the Sial Sharif shrine would tender their resignations at the public meeting in Faisalabad today.

He had been assured by the PML-N leaders that the issue of Rana Sanaullah’s remarks will be resolved, and that Sanaullah would appear before him to clarify his remarks.

Meanwhile, Sunni Tehreek announced protest in Lahore over the issue. The date of the protest will be announced later. - Samaa
