ISLAMABAD: All eyes are on the Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Friday) as the decision of the Imran Khan, Jahangir Tareen disqualification case will be announced.

After the disqualification of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif due to the Panama Papers scandal, this is the most important case that political experts and pundits have been keeping a keen eye on.

Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen can both be disqualified on grounds of the existential evidence. However, that is not the only decision that may be announced. The court can also dismiss petitions against Imran and Tareen citing lack of evidence.

Option number three that the apex court can go with is that a JIT or commission could be formed to further probe Imran Khan's money trail or claims of alleged funding against him.

The court can also form a commission or JIT to investigate Jahangir Tareen's 18,000 acre land or his offshore company's trust.

The last option at the court's disposal is to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan to take a decision within a month or two with regard to allegations of funding against Imran Khan and in the case of Jahangir Tareen, order the relevant forums to do the same.

The apex court had reserved its judgment on November 14.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the petitions filed by PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi.

The bench conducted more than 50 hearings for over a year.

In the last hearing, the chief justice said that the court would look into all aspects of each and every account to determine truth.

Tthe counsel representing Khan told the court that the defence had submitted all documents they could obtain before the court.

Advocate Naeem Bokhari maintained that 100,000 pounds were available in the account of Niazi Services Limited (NSL) ─ an off-shore company owned by the PTI chairman. In July 2007, 20,000 pounds were transferred to Imran’s personal account, he added. Bukhari said that in March 2008, another sum of 22,000 euros was transferred into the account and was cashed four years later in 2012

In multiple TV interviews, Imran Khan said that he would quit politics if he was disqualified by the apex court.
