ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman on Thursday criticised the government for according ‘public-money’ protocol to ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his return to Pakistan today.

“Absolutely shameful how a discredited PM, facing a host of financial corruption charges, is given official protocol at tax payer expense,” Imran Khan said on Twitter.

“How can PM Abbasi sanction this protocol/Punjab House stay at tax payer expense for a man charged with corruption on multiple counts,” he added.

The PTI chief also criticised Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for supporting Nawaz Sharif.

“PM Abbasi showing complicity in helping NS save his ill-gotten, money laundered Rs 300 bn stashed abroad as he faces accountability court… Shocking how PMLN govt by providing official protocol to NS is glamourising criminal financial corruption by the Sharifs,” Khan said in the series of tweets.

Nawaz Sharif arrived in Pakistan today, less than a month after he left for London, to appear before the court in connection with two corruption references filed against him by NAB.

A large number of PML-N supporters and party leaders including Senators Asif Kirmani and Pervaiz Rasheed and MNA Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary turned up at Islamabad airport to welcome him.

Minutes after landing, Sharif along with his motorcade left for Punjab House where he is meeting party leaders and holding consultation regarding his plan to appear in court tomorrow. – Samaa
