KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar is going to create waves in Karachi’s politics at an important press conference today evening, Samaa reported Wednesday.
According to our correspondent, Farooq Sattar will speak to media persons at around 6:00pm at Karachi Press Club.
There are reports that he may announce merger of his party with Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). Both Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal are likely to sit togather in the press conference.
Sources have also confirmed that both the sides have decided to contest next general elections from a single platform “to prevent Karachi’s mandate from being split.”
Ahead of the crucial press conference, Farooq Sattar has convened officer-bearers of all levels at the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters where the party’s local leadership will be taken into confidence, reports said.
Meanwhile, speaking to Samaa, PSP’s senior leader Waseem Aftab, refused to confirm the merger reports expressing his unawareness; however, he said PSP chief Mustafa will welcome the development.
“Kamal has a wish to join hands with all political forces for the sake of this city. He has welcomed Farooq Sattar in the past and we will love to work with whoever is willing to serve this city,” Aftab said.
The news came as a surprise to many as both the breakaway factions of MQM have criticised each other until recently. – Samaa
