APML condemns banning of television channels

ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Muslim League has condemned the banning of all news channels in Pakistan, Samaa reported.

APML, in its tweet on Saturday, wrote that for the first time in history of Pakistan, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) bans all news channels.

They asked whether it was a blanket ban on democracy.

APML further stated that there was freedom for media in the tenure of its Chairman General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

He added that the masses would have been watching state-run channel if there was a democratic government.

PEMRA has taken down transmission of television channels following clashes between protesters of a religious party and security forces in Islamabad and Karachi. At least a security personnel has been killed and 135 people have been injured in the violence.

It should be mentioned that the former dictator had also taken down the transmission of television when he imposed emergency back in 2007.
