PTI’s Mazari dubs Sharmeen’s Facebook stance as “disgusting”

ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Dr Shireen Mazari on Saturday lashed out at Oscar Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for allegedly getting a doctor fired due to a Facebook friend request.

In a series of tweets earlier this week, Ms Chinoy said that her sister had received a Facebook friend request from a doctor she had visited at the emergency ward of Agha Khan University Hospital for treatment.

She maintained that the Facebook request from the doctor amounted to harassment.

According to unconfirmed media reports, the doctor was later fired by the hospital on a compliant of the filmmaker.

The issue has stirred a heated national debate on social media platforms and mainstream media about the definition of harassment.

Joining the debate, PTI MNA Shireen Mazarai called Ms Chinoy’s stance as disgusting.

“A competent doctor with a family has lost his job and SOC (Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy) has sought to defame all Pakistan by using Pakistan in her attack!, Mazari wrote.

“Not sad, it’s disgusting! Friend request does not qualify as harassment by any definition! Ridiculous sense of entitlement,” she added .

Some reports quoted a senior AKU board member saying that the said doctor was under investigation and warning about his unethical behaviour.  – SAMAA
