LAHORE: Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Friday called for the immediate arrest of Nawaz Sharif and his family members, stating that there was no room for reconciliation with them.

In a statement issued from Lahore, the former president rejected what he referred to as ‘VIP accountability’ of the Sharifs and demanded they go through the same relentless process of accountability that PPP leaders had to go through.

“When bogus cases were made against us, Sharif family acted like Pharoahs,” he said. “Nawaz Sharif should recall what his own NAB used to do,” he added.

Zardari said that Sharif family was provided bail within a day whereas he and other PPP leaders were not so lucky.

“Police used to arrest us and throw us in jail first and later make cases,” he said.

Zardari’s comments come two days after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar were indicted by an accountability court.

Nawaz Sharif has been indicted in the Flagship Investment Ltd reference filed against him by NAB. His sons Hussain and Hassan Nawaz have been declared proclaimed offenders since they did not shown up for the hearing.
