Karachi: 12 people drown at Hawke’s Bay

KARACHI: Twelve picnickers from three different families drowned at Hawke’s Bay beach in Karachi on Saturday.

An Edhi official told SAMAA that 10 bodies had been recovered and shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi, while another body had also been retrieved from the sea and was being taken to the hospital.

The search for one more victim was under way.

Two women were among the victims.

MLO Civil Hospital Dr. Arif confirmed that 10 bodies had been brought to the hospital. He said the victims were identified as
Wahaj (28), son of Shahzad; Umair (30), son of Jameel; Ali (25), son of Noor Ali; Saud (50), son of Shoaib Ahmed; Filza (17),
daughter of Saud; Ebad (15), son of Saud; Atif (30), son of Naseem Ahmed; Taha (20), son of Minhaj; Ali (26), son of Zameer;
Hamza (12), son of Jameel.

In a statement, Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair has expressed sorrow and grief on the drowning of 12 persons at
Karachi’s Hawkesbay beach on Saturday.

A statement issued by the Governor House said that he also expressed condolences and sympathized with the families of the
victims.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives due to drowning at Hawks-Bay Shore.

The chief minister expressed condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

Shehbaz Sharif said our sympathies are with the aggrieved families and the Punjab government equally shares their grief. – SAMAA
