Ousted PM pleads with SC to set aside disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has filed a second petition before the Supreme Court, asking it to set aside his disqualification.

In his plea filed on Monday, Nawaz Sharif pleaded with the apex court to suspend his disqualification according to the July 28 judgment until his review petition was heard.

“Our review petition is solid and if the July 28 verdict is not suspended, the petitioner (Nawaz Sharif) will have to bear an irreparable loss,” according to the petition.

It further said the five-judge bench wasn’t authorized to announce the Panama Papers case verdict.

The former prime minister said that the appointment of a monitoring judge to oversee the implementation of the July 28 judgment was also a violation of Article 75 and 125 of the Constitution.

The disqualification of the petitioner under Article 62 has violated the petitioner’s fundamental right to fair trial, it added. – SAMAA
