MULTAN: At least six persons lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Multan on Sunday, as a van they were travelling in caught fire, Samaa reported.

According to our correspondent, a van carrying nearly 30 people of a family, including women and children, caught after its LPG gas cylinder exploded.

Police and rescue officials said the ill-fated van first collided with wall of a bridge. The crash exploded the gas cylinder, causing fire into the vehicle.

The passengers attempted to come out of the on-fire van but 24 of them sustained burn injuries while six burnt to death.

All the injured and the dead belonged to a same family, said rescue sources.

According to Rescue 1122, the van was coming from Chowk Munda, Layyah, and heading to Muzaffargarh when it met the incident at Head Muhammad Wala Bridge.

Police said the incident occurred due to over-speeding.

The rescuers shifted the injured to Multan’s Nishtar hospital. Doctors said some of the injured were in critical condition.

The van driver, police said, managed to flee from the scene. – Samaa
