Parachinar

PARACHINAR: The death toll of the deadly Parachinar explosion rose to 24 as another injured succumbed to his wounds during treatment in Agency Headquarters Hospital, Samaa reported.

At least 24 people have been killed and 90 others have been injured in a bomb blast in the Shia-dominant city.

The city is in mourning following the tragic incident. A sit-in protest was staged by the citizens against terrorism and terrorist organizations.

Security has also been tightened across the city after the explosion.

Quran Khawani and special prayers have been arranged for the victims of the deadly blast.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a faction of the umbrella Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, or Pakistani Taliban, swiftly claimed the attack in a message sent to AFP.

The attack comes after a wave of militant violence killed 130 people across Pakistan in February, unnerving citizens who had been emboldened by improving security and prompting a military crackdown.

Survivors described hiding inside shops after hearing a “huge bang” — then stumbling through dust-choked air filled with the sound of screams, tripping over bodies as they searched for the wounded in the busy market in Parachinar, capital of Kurram tribal district.
