ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaz Aziz said on Monday that the death sentence handed out to Indian spy Kalbhushan Yadav was in accordance with the law.

During a Senate meeting chaired by chairman Raza Rabbani. Mushahid Hussain asked Sartaj Aziz regarding India’s reaction to the news that Kalbhushan Yadav was handed a death sentence by Pakistan. Mushahid also quizzed Sartaj as to when the death sentence would be carried out.

“Kulbhushan was sentenced in accordance with the law,” said Sartaj Aziz. “Regarding India’s reaction and other matters, it is premature to comment,” he added in response to Mushahid Hussain’s questions.

According to the statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Indian RAW Agent 1 Naval officer 415582 Commander Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel was arrested on March 3, 2016 through a Counter Intelligence Operation from Mashkel, Balochistan, for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan.

The spy has been tried through Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under Pakistan Army Act (PAA) and awarded death sentence, the statement said.
