KARACHI: Six days after the expiry of extended tenure of policing powers of paratroopers, Karachi’s targeted operation practically ground to a standstill.
Sindh government seems to be on tenterhooks whether to extend these policing powers to Rangers or not as top leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has not given a green signal to this effect so far.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said issue of policing powers is not a major one, adding Rangers force is bound to go by the directives of Sindh government.
“It is hoped that all institutions will function under their constitutional limits,” he added.
Meantime, Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) demanded an extension to the Rangers’ policing powers.
Dr. Farooq Sattar demanded special powers be delegated to the paratroopers across Sindh including Karachi. –SAMAA
