SC rejects PTI’s review petition in NA-110 rigging case

March 20, 2017

Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) review petition against the verdict in NA-110 rigging case, Samaa reported.

A three member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar heard the review petition filed by PTI’s Usman Dar.

In the hearing, Dar’s counsel Babar Awan stated that the record of three polling stations has not yet been recovered.

Awan added that 19000 votes were found from sealed bags.

A three member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that no solid evidence could be provided by the petitioner to review the verdict.

The chief justice said that Defence Ministry Khawaja Muhammad Asif is emerging victorious in the elections even if 15000 bogus votes are excluded.

He added that Dar did not appear in the hearing despite being summoned repeatedly.

“The entire election cannot be declared void on the statements and records of 10 supporters,” he said.

It should be noted that PTI had filed a review petition after SC upheld the victory of Khawaja Muhammad Asif in the 2013 general elections.
