Nisar reveals Islamabad grows insecure for women

Women are unsafe in the first Safe City of Pakistan as the number of rapes burgeoned to 160 percent during the last year.

This revelation was made by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who said at the floor of National Assembly that the number of rape incidents grew to 39 during 2016.

Chaudhry Nisar said the incidents of sexual abuse against women were 15 in 2015 and this mounted to 39 in 2016 in the federal capital.

A report containing the details of cases regarding women torture and kidnappings of children was presented before the Senate session chaired by Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani.

According to the report, 119 cases of women torture and murder were logged during the last year and 26 women were murdered in Islamabad during the last year.

Eight cases of murder attempts on women and 39 rape cases were lodged in Islamabad.

The report submitted by interior ministry said 46 cases of torture on women were lodged and 16 children were abducted during last year in the capital; of them nine children have been recovered and seven are still unaccounted for.

The efforts to recover the missing children are underway, the report said.

Regarding security arrangements at Pak-Afghan border, the reported submitted by the federal minister said Torkham and Chaman borders are already functional and they will be equipped with the state of the art technology by 2020.

The report further said a sub-committee has been formed to stanch the supply of funds to the proscribed organizations and the committee is in full action against the outfits involved in terrorism in the country. –SAMAA
