Karachi: Dr. Gianluca Rubagotti, the Italian consul general announced at a press conference on Thursday at a local hotel that the winner of Italy Reads Pakistan Awards will be announced on Saturday. The awards were launched last year by the consulate of Italy in Karachi. Saturday is also the second day of the Karachi Literature Festival (KLF).
The prize given to the winner is somehow extraordinary. It not only caters the winner with some cash reward but also with a privilege of translating the winning piece (be it in Urdu or English) into Italian. In this regard Dr. Rubagotti expressed his heartily feelings for being the part of the KLF and also that the award associated with the Metropoli d’Asia which is an Italian publishing house. He added that this award would not only encourage the winner but also it would aim to bring the people of the two nations get to know each other through their literatures.
There will be a panel of three local judges to assess the literary pieces. These shortlisted works will later be evaluated by the Italian jury nominated by Metropolis d’Asia. The Pakistani panel of judges includes Bina Shah, H.M. Naqvi and Salman Tariq Qureshi. However the Italian panel consists of Gaia Amaducci, Monica Martignoni and Giovanni Garbellini.
