Pakistan's prominent reality TV host, VJ and stunt performer Waqar Zaka was badly beaten up outside a restaurant in Clifton area of Karachi late Friday night.

The video of the assault has gone viral on social media websites.

In the video which was widely shared on Facebook and Twitter, unknown men can be seen speaking obscenities, slapping and dragging the TV host.

Speaking to media persons later, he confirmed the authenticity of the video.

"I was in a cafe for dinner at around 2am. I was alone and there was a group of eight to nine boys and girls. They started making my videos, to which I objected and asked how would they react if I did the same," he said.

"This started the arguments. They asked me to come outside. When I walked out of the cafe, there were 10 to 12 security guards accompanying two men," he said.

Zaka said it was a deliberate and pre-planned act.

"I went straight to Clifton police station and lodged an FIR like an ordinary citizen," he said.

Zaka said that he was waiting for police action knowing the attackers were very influential. - SAMAA

Correction: An earlier version of the story wrongly stated that Waqar Zaka was injured in the incident and was taken to a local hospital. The story also wrongly mentioned that his hand was fractured. This has been corrected.
